beals alliance provided our urban design services to the redevelopment and beautification of the Del Paso Boulevard corridor and neighborhood. The vision for the Del Paso Boulevard Streetscape & Beautification Master Plan Master Plan was to further expand upon and create a Mecca for professional artists, art collectors, interior designers, the weekend art enthusiast, and visitors to Sacramento. Key components of this project include a detailed analysis regarding existing streetscape, infrastructure, land use, transportation conditions, and the preparation of plans.
The design for the Del Paso Boulevard streetscape steps beyond the ordinary landscaped median to strengthen the focus in the neighborhood toward the art community. It draws inspiration from remnants of historical eras that influenced the boulevard and complements the surrounding Art Deco architecture buildings. Art Deco features sleek geometric motifs and dynamic curvi-linear patterns to establish rhythm and character. In keeping with the theme, some of the elements that were incorporated were a sliced concrete cylinder, illuminated glass blocks, and ball-shaped stoneware bollards to anchor the ends of each median. In addition, bright colored concrete pads were integrated to accommodate sculptures from local artists. Planting selections included bright Day Lilies enliven the median, Red Maples add vertical interest, and palm trees further define the entrance to this ?Arts District.?
